PDP Moves to Block Lado's Candidacy, Holds Emergency Meeting in Katsina

Amidst the leadership crisis engulfing the PDP in Katsina, which has split the party into two factions—one led by the 2023 gubernatorial candidate Senator Yakubu Lado and the other by Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa—the party convened an emergency meeting to address members on the ongoing situation regarding the upcoming ward and local government leadership elections.

The meeting took place in the campaign office of the 2023 presidential candidate of the PDP, located near Muhammadu Dikko Stadium Katsina.

This meeting comes as the party prepares for its ward and local government leadership elections scheduled for July 7, 2024.

In his speech, former Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa, accused the APC of manipulating the PDP at the national level, affecting the state level as well.

He stated, "The APC, through the Minister of Abuja, Nyesom Wike, is manipulating the party, which has led to complications within the PDP." Dr. Inuwa further noted that Wike's remarks about the PDP not having a candidate for 2027 indicate his defection to the APC, and that he is using his position within the PDP to manipulate the party’s affairs.

In his address, the PDP leader in Katsina and former National Secretary of the party, Alhaji Umaru Tsauri, declared that the party is stronger than any individual and that they would not allow anyone to ruin it for personal gain. He inaugurated a committee to investigate the sale of leadership forms within the party and called on supporters to ensure appropriate measures are taken to resolve the issue.

Hon. Salisu Yusuf Majigiri, the Member Representing Mashi/Dutsi, asserted that the PDP is not a personal property for anyone to control single-handedly. He expressed his displeasure at the notion that a single individual could lead the collective efforts of many dedicated members to advance the party.

He said, "It is impossible to go to the Kurfi ward and attempt to lead the PDP without Umaru Tsauri, or to Dan Musa without Dr. Mustapha, or Kankia without Ahmed Babba Kaita, or to Mashi Dutsi without my involvement."
